I often instruct viewers to zoom in on pics for best description. Thus, the pics that I upload to eBay need to be clear and high resolution. Listing from my smartphone using pics taken with it is extremely easy, but the picture quality sometimes isn't up to par.
In addition to a good digital camera, many people buy special lighting kits and other photography setups for professional looking pictures. I just do the best I can with what I have and adjust photos in a photo editing software to correct color and clarity. Digital cameras, especially the older ones, tend to cast a bluish tint to photos and wash out some of the sharp edges when the camera is doing its own adjustments for lighting, etc. I use the basic tools in the eBay photo uploader for non clothing items, but I color correct and enhance clothing for better accuracy and to make them stand out. I have seen lots of good information shared in Facebook groups for recommendations on lighting equipment and setup.
